Mrs. Poppenberg and Dr. Cowden are committed to educating breast cancer survivors and the health care providers who treat them of the importance of exercise. Ingomar Methodist Church Survivors Meeting
- Janette Poppenberg will meet with survivors to discuss the importance of exercise not only for the recovery from breast cancer treatment but also to help reduce recurrence of the disease. She will demonstrate a sample of stretching and weight lifting exercise.

Bethlehem Haven’s Lecture Series: Helping Women Helps the World
- Dr. Sharon Cowden will speak on her personal experience with breast cancer and her involvement in the subsequent development of Strength and Courage DVD. She will discuss how this project has positively impacted thousands of survivors in the US and internationally to aid in recovery after breast cancer treatment.

Strong Women: New STEPS to Breast Health - Importance of Exercise for Breast Cancer Survivors - Mercer, PA
- Seminar for site leaders for Strong Women program which is affiliated with the Northern Appalachia Cancer Network. The initiative is a cooperative effort with Penn State College of Medicine. The site leaders will reach out to breast cancer survivors in rural Appalachian areas to teach the survivors the importance of exercise to decrease weight and increase bone strength.
